From a fortification built by the Daughter of Alfred the Great in 914AD, then the original castle built by William the Conquerer in 1068, to an involvement in the Gun Powder Plot of 1605, a Prison during the English Civil War, you’ll have over 1,100 years of history to explore.
By day the castle’s visitors enjoy the manmade scares of The Castle Dungeons, what will you find by night? The ghost of a former owner murdered by a disgruntled servant, playful child spirits or the dark entity that is said to dwell in the dungeon? The building has survived the siege, fire and wars now it’s time to test your nerve in the dungeons, towers and halls of this imposing castle.
